Brazil Offers Home Ownership to People Living in Slums
About 1 billion people in the world live in slums. According to the United Nations, slums are run-down parts of cities where poor people live in makeshift adj. temporary houses. People who live in slums don’t own the land or the houses. They can be kicked out at any time.
Brazil has many slums, known as favelas. Hardworking families live in them. But favelas are also homes to violence and drugs.
